Celebrated tennis partners Nick Kyrigos and Thanasi Kokkinakis (the Special Ks) kindly made plans to meet refugees Don Khan, Imran and Madi straight after their doubles match at the Australian Open last Sunday January 23 2022.
The duo followed through, having won their game.
Both Don Khan and Imran were locked up in the same hotel used to detain Novak Djokovic in Carlton, Melbourne. These refugees were released after eight years in detention.
The Yonex CEO then gifted them with brand new tennis racquets and Louise Pleming’s Rally4Ever promised them coaching lessons so they can take on the world with greater well-being.
We need all our friends free. For those unfortunately not included in the first releases, there have now been nine torturous years in detention. The selections seem arbitrary. To be held indefinitely simply because you arrived by boat to claim asylum instead of by plane is against the spirit of international laws addressing the plight of refugees.
Let them free and let them free now.
