The latest art exhibition at Waverley Park Homestead was opened by Willunga National Trust Chair Brian McMillan on Sunday 10 November and will be on display for three months.
“Our Buildings” was curated by Sara Livsey and contains original artworks and sketches of the four buildings that the Willunga National Trust leases from the City of Onkaparinga – Courthouse Museum, Slate Museum (Old Stables), Bassett Boy’s Schoolroom and Waverley Park Homestead.
Our artwork on loan from the National Gallery in Canberra titled “Jetty Ramp and Howe’s fishing lookout” by Kathleen Sauerbier remains on display (Oil on canvas. c.1935. 53.5 x 65.5 cm. Collection of the National Gallery of Australia). This artwork will stay with us until 2026.
The Feature Artwork for November at Waverley Park Homestead is “Still Life from the Garden” by Sophie Dunlop (Oil on canvas. 2024. 76 x 102 cm. Collection of the Artist).
Sophie Dunlop is an experienced artist and has shared her love of art through teaching and exhibiting her artwork. Originally from Sydney, she trained at the College of Fine Arts, the Julian Ashton Art School and with her father, the renowned artist, Brian Dunlop. She has lived in South Australia for 20 years and Aldinga for the last 5 years. Sophie has exhibited locally at the Port Noarlunga Art Centre, Hugo Winery, Dridan Gallery, the Hill Smith Gallery and Greenhill Gallery. She has taught at the Adelaide Central School of Art and run her own classes for many years.
Sophie is a member of the Australian Watercolour Institute and has been a finalist in the Wynne Prize and many other prizes. Sophie held many exhibitions in Sydney, including at Eva Breuer Art Dealer and Art Atrium. Sophie is currently working towards an exhibition all about the local produce and producers of the Fleurieu Peninsula to be held at the Port Noarlunga Art Centre in March of 2025.
Waverley Park Homestead is located at 23 St Peters Terrace (on the grounds of the Willunga Golf Course) and is open Friday, Sat and Sun from 1 to 4 pm.
