I have lived in the beautiful electorate of Mayo for three decades. I am a resident of the Adelaide Hills, along with my family and our dog Lulu. I am the mother of three grown up children. I understand the challenges of juggling family and work, balancing a household budget and getting medical appointments when and where you need them. The Mayo population continues to grow, but our services and infrastructure are struggling to keep up. Where there are new housing developments, they should be sympathetic to the environment, complementary to existing homes and supported by the appropriate infrastructure.
During my time as an independent voice for the people of Mayo I have been able to secure more than $500 million in funding for various projects, including the upgrade to the Southern Fleurieu Health Service Emergency Department in Victor Harbor, South Road duplication and upgrades, Victor Harbor Road duplication, funding for the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth Research Centre and for the McLaren Vale Flat to Vale Trail.
As we approach the election, I am focussed on the issues that matter most to families in Mayo, including genuine cost of living measures, better health outcomes for regional Australians and improved social and transit infrastructure funding.
If I am re-elected, I will be advocating for funding for projects that help improve the lives of people in Mayo. These include rail extension south from Seaford Meadows, funding for further South Road upgrades, a Palliative Care Clinic at Victor Harbor, an Endometriosis and Pelvic Clinic in the Adelaide Hills, full funding of the Coorong Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth Research Centre and improved sport and recreational facilities (including for the McLaren Flat Soccer Club and Onkaparinga Valley Football Club).
I have represented the people of Mayo since first being elected in 2016. In that time, I have advocated for aged care reform, climate action, political donation reform, gambling reform and integrity and accountability in politics. In relation to the environment, I will continue to be a strong advocate for biodiversity, species loss and reducing plastic pollution. I support national standards for environmental diversity protections.
I believe if I am returned to Federal Parliament, I can continue to make a difference for the people of Mayo.
By not being part of a major party, I can vote in the best interests of the people of Mayo. I will assess each piece of legislation, as I have always done, on its merits.
