I’m Marisa Bell, I’m an intensive care nurse and educator – and for the past two years I’ve represented my community as a Councillor for the City of Onkaparinga.
I was Labor’s candidate at the 2022 federal election and I want to continue the discussions I started in the community where I have lived for almost 30 years.
I’m passionate about improving the lives of others and advocating for a fair society where everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
Inspired by the courage of my Italian ancestors – who came to Australia seeking a better life – I live these values every day as an intensive care nurse and as a volunteer in my community.
I’ve worked as a frontline health professional in South Australia for more than 40 years and continue to work as an intensive care nurse supporting patients across our health network.
In an electorate like Mayo, where the demographic is changing and the population is growing, affordable and accessible health services must be available regardless of whether you’re in a small township or popular tourist area.
This is particularly important in Mayo where people rely on trusted locals to deliver quality care.
The Albanese Labor Government has made major investments to strengthen Medicare, boost bulk billing and make medicines cheaper.
Protecting and strengthening our public health system is critical for a diverse electorate like Mayo.
Another key priority for me is aged care – as a carer of my own parents, we must stand up for those who’ve helped build our communities.
The Albanese Labor Government is restoring dignity to aged care by putting nurses back into nursing homes, delivering a pay rise for aged care workers and establishing a new Support at Home program.
Supporting our most vulnerable and providing opportunities for young people to learn closer to home ensures everyone can reach their potential and live safe and prosperous lives.
We must also prioritise infrastructure projects that connect and better protect our regional communities including residents travelling from fast growing areas like Aldinga.
Increased public transport options are always welcome but we have to keep working to connect regional communities to essential services.
If I’m elected, I will deliver on Labor’s commitment of more bulk billing, cheaper medicines – and to train thousands more doctors and nurses like those I work with every day.
A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will deliver the biggest ever boost to Medicare.
This will help millions more Australians to see a GP for free, including an additional 1.5 million bulk-billed GP visits each year in South Australia.
This is in addition to cost-of-living support that includes another $150 off your power bills (on top of the $300 Labor is already taking off) and more tax cuts for every taxpayer.
I have a proven track record of getting things done, in my community of Kangarilla and as a Councillor for the City of Onkaparinga, and will advocate for my constituents in the same manner I do my patients – with compassion, integrity and accountability.
As a daughter of hardworking Italian migrants, I’m not afraid of a challenge and thrive in community spaces that bring people together.
I’ll work collaboratively across all levels of government to achieve outcomes for this beautifully diverse electorate.
