My name is Genevieve Dawson-Scott, and I’m proud to be your Greens candidate for Mayo. I’m not just a candidate—I’m a member of this incredible community. I live in Bridgewater with my young family, work as an early childhood educator and marriage celebrant, and volunteer at our local playgroup and Kindergym. Like many of you, I’ve felt the pressures of rising rents, inaccessible healthcare, and the escalating impacts of climate change. These challenges drive my commitment to fight for a fairer, more sustainable future for everyone in Mayo.
If elected, I will focus on three key priorities that reflect the needs of our community: climate action, fixing the housing crisis, and healthcare for all.
Genuine Climate and Environmental Action
Mayo is on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Bushfires are no longer just a threat—they are a lived reality for many of us. Yet Labor has approved over 30 new coal and gas projects since coming into government, while Peter Dutton’s Liberals push dangerous nuclear energy policies. We cannot afford to wait any longer for real climate action.
I will fight to:
Stop new coal and gas projects and oppose Dutton’s toxic nuclear agenda.
Invest in publicly owned renewable energy to lower bills and create sustainable green jobs.
Protect our environment by banning native forest logging, saving koalas from extinction, and securing World Heritage protection for the Great Australian Bight.
Safeguard the River Murray by restoring environmental flows and strengthening protections for this vital waterway that sustains South Australia’s ecosystems, industries, and communities.
Fixing the Housing Crisis
Housing affordability is at breaking point in Mayo. Renters face skyrocketing rents and unsafe living conditions while first-time buyers are locked out by unfair tax handouts to wealthy property investors. Labor and the Liberals have handed $176 billion in tax breaks to property investors over the next decade—this system is rigged against everyday Australians.
I will advocate for:
Cap unlimited rent increases to provide immediate relief for renters.
Building quality public homes that are affordable to rent or buy.
Phasing out negative gearing and capital gains tax discounts that favor property investors over families.
Healthcare for All
Healthcare should be accessible to everyone, but rising costs mean too many people in Mayo can’t afford to see a doctor or access mental health support. This is unacceptable in a country as wealthy as ours.
The Greens will push to:
Expand Medicare to include dental and mental health care so everyone can access treatment without financial stress.
Ensure free GP visits for all Australians.
Increase funding for regional healthcare services to attract medical professionals to areas like Mayo.
The Greens’ policies are fully costed by the Independent Parliamentary Budget Office and funded by making billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share of tax. Right now, 1 in 3 big corporations pay no tax while everyday people struggle with rising costs—that has to change.
This election is about real change — change that won’t happen overnight but starts with your vote.
Together, we can build a future based on hope, fairness, and sustainability for Mayo residents today and generations to come.
If you want change, you have to vote for it.
